PART 3. PRACTICE - CONCEPT THE BUDDHA. I. INTRODUCTION: Buddhism has two sects that many people know, namely Zen Buddhism and Pure Land Buddhism. The practice of Zen Buddhism is sitting meditation. And the practice of the Pure Land School is the Nembutsu. When it comes to Nembutsu, people will ask the question, why do people recite Buddha's name? What are the benefits of Buddhist recitation? How to recite the Buddha's name correctly? Those are the important questions we need to know through, to avoid mistakes, and also to choose the right spiritual practice for us. II. WHY DOES THERE ARE THE dharmas of the Buddha's Remembrance: Perhaps one should also quote the following story: Crown Prince Asha The, the son of King Qin Ba Sala and Queen Vi De Hy, listened to Devadatta's instigation, took the throne and won the throne. father, and Devadatta will kill Shakyamuni Buddha to ascend to the Buddha throne. A Xa The previous life was a monk in the mountains, King Tan Ba Sa La did not have a Crown Prince to inherit the throne, the king prayed for a son, There was a Taoist who told the king that there was a monk on that mountain who, after his life ended, would be reincarnated as a crown prince. The king, because he had no children, was impatient, so he went to the mountain to meet the monk, asking him to reincarnate so that the king could have a son soon, the monk said that he would only end his life in 3 years, if the king forced him I must die, he is afraid that in the next life there will be enmity and the king will suffer retribution. King Tan Ba Sala still insisted that he be reincarnated early, the monk committed suicide and reincarnated as Crown Prince A Xa The. Hearing Devadatta's words, Asha Thea forced his father to be locked in a prison cell, not giving him food or drink to starve to death. The queen knew that, so she asked Aisha to let him in. She secretly covered her body with food. to the dungeon to feed the king. A Xa The knew that his father was still living on his mother's food, so he ordered the queen to be imprisoned. During that excruciating pain, Queen Vide Hy commemorates the Buddha. The Buddha immediately appeared to her and told her that the day before, King Tan Ba Sa La forced the other monk to die. Now, he must suffer retribution. Ba VI De Hy asked the Buddha to save her from the realm of samsara. Buddha used his divine power, appearing in many Buddha lands for her to choose which one she wanted; in the end she chose the pure land of Buddha Amitabha, which is a place of bliss over other realms. Therefore, the Buddha taught her the contemplation of immeasurable life, which is the contemplation so that after death she can return to Amitabha Buddha's land. Thought should also add, in the Lotus Sutra, the Buddha said, Devadatta in many previous lives, was the one who transmitted to the Buddha the Lotus Sutra, and the Buddha also prophesied to Devadatta. will become Heavenly King Tathagata later. Recently, there is a book Western Journey to the West by Mr. Khoan Tinh Dai Master, a disciple of the Most Venerable Hu Van, was taken by Avalokitesvara to the realm of ecstasy from October 25 in the year of the Goat (1967) to the fourth day of April in the year of the Ox (1973), for 6 years and 5 months, but in that realm , you seem to have only 20 hours. He has met Venerable Huu Van, Maitreya Buddha, Amitabha Buddha taught him Khoan Tinh, if anyone is single-mindedly undisturbed, just reciting 10 of his names will also be reborn in the land of bliss. . The book was translated by Lu The Hoa and two translators, Huu Tu and Tam Hao, who are our religious friends, practicing the Pure Land method at Quan Am Monastery, Bien Hoa city. In the Amitabha sutras, we often recite when praying for salvation for the deceased. The Buddha taught that if someone holds the name of Amitabha Buddha from one day, two days... seven days, if the mind is not in turmoil, when they die, Amitabha Buddha and bodhisattvas will appear before their eyes, If this person dies, his mind is not perturbed, he will be reborn in the Land of Ultimate Bliss. This realm has 9 levels. Due to the meritorious practice of cultivating and seeking to be reborn in the realm of his bliss, he will have a lotus flower for himself in the realm of ecstasy. After we leave samsara, we will be picked up by Amitabha Buddha or bodhisattvas into the realm of bliss in a lotus flower, when the lotus flower blooms, we will be born, not having parents born like in our world this lady. In the Dai Amitabha Sutra, there is a king named Kieu Thi Ca, listening to Buddha The Tu At Vuong preaching the Dharma, the king ordained as a Dharma Tibetan monk. He had 48 vows, and later completed his deeds to become Amitabha Buddha. In it, the 29th vow is as follows: When I become a Buddha, the gods and people in immeasurable worlds in the ten directions, with all their love and devotion, vow to be born in my country, and recite my name for ten hours, regular rebirth, Except for those who commit the five crimes and despise the Dharma, if I vow not to do so, I will not become a Buddha. Also in the Lotus Sutra, which we often chant to pray for peace, the Buddha taught that Guanyin Bodhisattva always observes the world, whoever is in trouble, recites his name, then the disaster will pass. . He often saves and especially gives fearlessness. We also know that, when we recite the name of Buddha or Bodhisattva, we are remembering their vows for us to practice, while in reciting Buddha or Bodhisattva, our three karmas are peaceful. If we want to be reborn in Ultimate Bliss, we should recite Amitabha's name. III. HOW TO CONCERN THE BUDDHA? There are the following ways of reciting the Buddha's name: - Reciting: Kneel in front of the Buddha's table or walk in meditation, recite aloud, with a bell. - Whisper: Mindfulness in the street when commuting, at work, before going to bed... - Urgent: When we encounter sickness, accidents, or fear, we recite the names of Medicine Master, Avalokitesvara. - Reciting Buddha's rosary: Using rosary beads (a string of 108 beads), a chain of hands (18 beads), a middle chain (the Japanese use 27 beads) to recite a name, one time a rosary, is also a way to record the number of Buddha recitations. Don't use your mind to remember. - Contemplation: Look at the Buddha image, pay attention to admire the good general of the Buddha or imagine the image of the Buddha in front of your eyes. - Reciting the Buddha's name: People make a notebook, for every 1000 Buddha names, write 1 dot or recite 1000 Buddha names, then put a stick of incense in the tube. - Specialized in mindfulness: Walking, standing, lying down, sitting we always recite the Buddha's name. When we recite well, it is said in the Great Tapestry Sutra: "Big recollection sees a large Buddha, small remembrance sees a small Buddha". We are people of low capacity, we need to rely on our Buddhist recitation to focus on it, so we can be one-pointed. When we recite silently, we also have to pay attention to each thought, not leaving a moment, not letting it run after any image, sound, or idea so that the mind can focus on one thing, called one-pointedness. . When we recite the rosary, we only focus on the name of the Buddha who recited the Buddha's name, the process of repeating each rosary to let our hands do it automatically. Regarding the deep chain, there is a place where people make a sign like a vase of pure water, a larger bead... that place represents the Three Jewels. The rosary starts from that place and goes, until the next time it comes to that place, it is enough to recite a rosary 108 times, if the right hand rosary is 6 times (6x18 = 108), the middle rosary must be 4 times (4 x 27 = 108). Never go past the mark, when next time have to turn the string backwards, It is believed that if we pass through the symbolic place of the Three Jewels, just as our hands pass over the Buddha, we will be guilty of a crime. But the way we think, maybe the Zen school sets that rule so that when we get there we know that we have a series, like chanting a sutra from time to time, calling a bell to wake us up. Thanks to the rosary, we know the amount and time of reciting the Buddha's name. The most important thing, the most essential part of reciting the Buddha's name is to have Faith, Conduct, and Vow. Faith is that we must firmly believe that this mundane world Birth, old age, sickness, and death are all suffering, the Dharma-door of reciting the Buddha's name is the golden word of the Buddha, we will be reborn in the realm of bliss, that realm is real. dignified and pure, led by Amitabha Buddha as the leader. Happiness is that we have to recite Buddha's name every hour. We must sincerely pray that after we die, we will be welcomed by Amitabha Buddha and the Holy Sangha to the Western Land of Bliss. You should know that the Buddhist recitation method takes Faith, Happiness, and Vow as the guiding principles: Conduct is like a carriage, vow like a charioteer, and have faith as a guide, three are enough to achieve the vehicle's progress. Pure land cultivators still have to keep the precepts, because if we don't keep the precepts, breaking the precepts means sowing evil deeds, we have to be reincarnated back into this world to pay the penalty, it's impossible to return to the western realm! IV. SOME STORIES ABOUT THE dharma sect of the Buddha: - Tan Thi has a husband surnamed Vu, who works as a fisherman in the Tien Duong River. Her children roamed around, broke the law, were arrested, and all their property was destroyed. Tan Thi sad, to the riverside wants to commit suicide. Fortunately, she met a monk at Tinh Tru temple, inquired about the reason, advised that: "When people are forced to suffer oppressive scenes, it is all karma in their previous lives. So try to be patient with peace of mind. If you lose your mind and commit suicide, all the more pitiful roots. To get rid of karma, the only way is to do good and recite the Buddha's name." Hearing that she was enlightened, she burned a finger in front of the Buddha altar to make offerings, and made a vow to be a vegetarian and cultivate the pure land. She practiced like this for more than ten years without laziness. When she met everyone, they clasped their hands and proclaimed themselves Buddhist. One day, Qin Thi invited a monk to come to her house to recite the Quan Amitabha Sutra while she sat down to recite the Buddha's name. In the chapter Quan Tuong, she sat quietly and escaped. - Tu Thi who lived in Tong Giang, he returned to her husband's house, Duong That Trai in the village. At 32 years old, she became a vegetarian and recited Buddha's name. Every night, she wakes up early, washes her mouth, puts on incense, recites the 21-fold Dai Bi mantra, recites the Buddha's 1000 sentences, and then takes care of the housework. She has practiced unrepentantly for such a shortcoming, for several decades. Summer, the 35th Qianlong year, Tu Thi fell ill. On the 8th of June, she followed the custom of chanting. After just reciting the mantra for more than a moment, the family heard the sound of escaping outside the door. Everyone ran over to see her smiling and sitting down. At that time, the weather was hot, so that for three days, the beauty was still as fresh as life. When the clothes were burned, the flames rose up and turned into the shape of a lotus of five colors. Everyone who saw it marveled and groaned in praise. - Thich Phat An, professed vows, a Qing Dynasty man in Suzhou, when he was over 30 years old, his family was next to him for the funeral of pigs, when he cut open his stomach, there were two words Cao Cao on the animal's lungs. terrified, enlightened, deeply believe in the theory of causality and reincarnation, set out to go to Thien Truc Am in Tan Kieu, cut down his hair to become a monk. After a short period of ordination, Phat An went to Phat Vuong Temple in Bac Hao, dedicated to reciting Buddha's name. When he received money as an offering, he immediately bought incense and flowers to offer to the Buddha, or released birds and fishes. In the 41st year of Qianlong, in the third month, Buddha An became ill, sent his disciples to Su Lam temple to ask the monks for a pure land ceremony, meditate for three days, and set up a group of yogis to give alms. The job was completed, the monk set up a vegetarian party and invited the new guests to say goodbye. At the end of the day, the monk chanted the Buddha's name aloud, and the disciples joined in. When the incense tree was dying, Buddha An said, "I'm leaving!" Just sit up straight. Binh was born at random when he took the exam, the monk meant to advise everyone to recite the Buddha's name. There are two articles when about to pass away as follows: Western beautiful color treasures interstellar In the pure and bright bright blue red white yellow flower showing wonderful colors Seeking only wish to see the Tathagata * Swipe to see the Tathagata quickly, who knows how far away is Ultimate Bliss? Di Da smiled with a golden hand to welcome Khen at Ta Ba with high morals! - Layman Ngo Minh Hong, himself Thuc Bao, from the Ming Dynasty, was born in Thai Thuong. He came from a wealthy family, liked to give alms, but did not understand the Buddhadharma. When he was over 60 years old, one day he suddenly took a shower, said goodbye to everyone, then invited the shaman An So at Long Phuoc pagoda to pass on the life of the three refuges and the five precepts. After receiving the precepts, he sat down, clasped his hands together and shouted three times: "Quick escape!" Then close your eyes and die. When the family members were still around, and the neighbors heard about it and ran to visit, the layperson suddenly opened his eyes and said, "I have just made a vow to leave the world, boldly silently reciting Amitabha Buddha, the scene of the Lotus world appeared in front of his eyes. Self-examination without any cultivation, now only reciting a few sentences of the Buddha, why do I get such wonderful retribution? So I advise you to try to practice cultivation!" After saying that, he asked his family to bring a basin of water, look at his face and look inside. For a moment, he suddenly realized, saying: "This life is Ngo Thuc Bao, the previous life. it's the Venerable Master Tu, good luck! Happy!" Then he joined his hands to recite the Buddha's name and finished his meal. At that time, a strange scent filled the house. The patriarchs of the Pure Land School did not have a lineage like Zen Buddhism. Pure Land veneration, in the Pure Land of Saint Hien Luc recorded 11 Patriarchs, in the ashram Linh Nham, Great Master An Quang met with his associates, continued to worship the 10th, 11th, and 12th Patriarchs. After An Quang Great Master passed away birth, The relatives noticed that he was virtuous, dignified and had merits in promoting the Pure Land, and gathered together to worship the 13th Patriarch. Am and Triet Ngo Provinces. V. CONCLUSION: Zen Buddhism or Pure Land Buddhism, we should not distinguish between high or low dharma, we need to know clearly which method is suitable for us, we should practice, when we have attained it, then meditation or serenity is just one. so that our minds can be undisturbed, please review the article Tu Lieu Simple of Great Master Dien Tho, he compares and advises us to practice.
